Lay Led Groups Blood Club

Each year, the Central PA Blood Bank sets a quota of donations we must make to remain a member in good standing. This number is calculated as a percentage of the number of members currently present in the church so, therefore, as our church continues to grow, our yearly responsibly to CPBB grows as well. In return for reaching our quota, CPBB provides all members of the church, their spouses, tax dependents, parents and grandparents of both member and spouse with cost-free blood and blood components. Exceptions to this rule are:

a) Any single individual may cover three additional people, and
b) a married couple with no tax dependents may cover two additional people. Administrative fees and laboratory tests are not covered by this plan, although they may be covered by an individual's insurance.

We ask all eligible new members to consider supporting the church by donating whole blood, platelets, or white blood cells in the church's name on a regular basis. Every church member is automatically a member of the Blood Club, but it does take a commitment on everyone's part to reach our goal each year. Complete the registration form during each blood or component donation by indicating that the Unitarian Church will receive credit for the donation. Our Blood Club account will automatically receive credit toward our yearly quota.

To obtain credit for any blood or blood component transfused to any of the individuals listed above, please notify Karen Sweer (check the church's directory), the Blood Club Chairperson, with the following information: patient's name and Social Security or hospital account number, hospital name and address, and, if known, the number of units of blood or blood components used. The patient's account will be adjusted within 6-8 weeks. You may also call Karen for further information about the donation process and donor eligibility requirements.

Thank you for helping support the Blood Club.
