Our Ministry:
Religious Growth and Learning for Children & Youth

Program Content

The seven Unitarian Universalist Principles and the Unitarian Universalist Sources are the foundation of the religious growth and learning program.

Together, we journey on a free and responsible search for our own religious truth. While nurturing and developing our own beliefs and spiritual practices, we seek to develop understanding of, and respect for, religious ideas. Children and youth are taught that there are many religious truths. No one religion or culture has all the "right" answers to the important questions in life. Religion is not like math class, with one correct answer, but like art or music, rich with diversity. The truth of religion is like beauty, best left to the eyes of the beholder.

Unitarian Universalists are grounded by the seven principles and a moral imperative to promote those principles in our everyday lives. This is the core of our faith, not a creed or profession of theological beliefs.

Theological growth and learning for a Unitarian Universalist is like visiting a magnificent, eclectic art gallery or music studio. Together we explore and contemplate as we travel our spiritual journey within the Unitarian Universalist faith. We are lifelong learners who continually question, seek answers and grow. Parents are the primary religious educators of their children. Leaders share their personal theological beliefs in classes and encourage families to develop, discuss, and articulate their own beliefs.

The Children and Youth Religious Growth and Learning Program is structured around three overlapping themes: Unitarian Universalism, Sources of Unitarian Universalist Principles, and Life Issues. The themes rotate as topics are explored and experienced in age appropriate ways.
