Our Ministry:
Religious Growth and Learning for Children & Youth

Teachers

Teachers are dedicated volunteers. Please meet them and express your appreciation!

Each class has a team of activity leaders and ritual leaders who rotate Sundays. The first teams of teachers rotate from September through February and the second team from March through mid June. Teachers usually work with the children six to eight Sundays a year.

  • Teachers are mentors and companions of the children as they undertake their religious journeys in life.
  • Knowledge is important, but it is not the most important asset in a teacher of religious growth and learning.
  • The essential qualities of a good teacher are a love of children, a sense of wonder about life, empathy and the ability to listen, and a willingness more to share who you are than what you know.
  • Teachers are equipped with the basics including training and advice about teaching, curriculum and the UU philosophy of religious growth and learning. The best education about managing a classroom or what it means to be a practicing UU is through the experience of teaching itself.
