Sharon
Katz
September 19

Sharon was born and educated in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. She made history in 1993 when she formed the country's first-ever, 500-member multi-cultural and multi-lingual performing group and staged the production called "When Voices Meet." She then rocked the nation with her concert tour, "The Peace Train." She took 150 performers, including Ladysmith Black Mambazo, on tour by train, giving concerts at every stop along their route. As the performers played, sang and danced to promote a peaceful transition to democracy in South Africa, television and radio crews rode on board The Peace Train and broadcasted all the events to the nation. The Peace Train subsequently toured in support of Nelson Mandela’s presidential campaign -- and the rest is history.
Sharon is a skilled African-picking guitarist, composer and singer who has performed with Ladysmith Black Mambazo as well as Miriam Makeba and Dolly Rathebe. Her CD, Imbizo, was nominated for a Grammy in 2002.
Walt Mahovlich & Steve Greenman
October 17

Accordionist Walt Mahovlich was a featured artist at the 1974 Smotra Foklora in Zagreb, Croatia, the Smithsonian's 1976 Festival of American Folklife, Jimmy Carter's Inaugural, the Rededication of Ellis Island and the Bicentennial Celebration of the Constitution in Philadelphia. He made his off-Broadway debut in Tony Kushner's adaptation of the S. Ansky classic, A Dybbuk, performing at New York's Public Theater. In other words, he ’s a well-rounded musician!
He will be accompanied by fellow musician Steve Greenman, a noted violinist specializing in klezmer and Eastern European Gypsy (Roma) music. He has done field work in Slovakia, Romania, the Ukraine and Hungary.

Camela Widad

Clover Lane Coffee House is pleased to welcome Camela Widad for a special solstice concert.
Folk, rock, rhythm, mystic mixed up in a cup of spicy tea and a raspy voice would give you a taste of this inspiring, positive blend of "folk meets intelligent lyricism" and "folk meets the sweetness of the girl next door."
From Austin to LA to San Francisco and now on the East Coast, Camela Widad Kraemer took her conversations with the folks she met who were upset with the social, political and spiritual scene in their lives -- and melded it into a new type of folk music. Spicy, sweet, funky, and contemplative. Well known on the college coffee house scene, she has also performed at larger venues across the U.S., including the Berkshire Mountain Music Festival (Massachusetts), the Health & Harmony Festival (California), the Takoma Park Folk Festival (Washington DC) and the Strawberry Festival (Pennsylvania).

We3 Group
and Janie Womack
Clover Lane opens the winter season with a double header featuring great local talent. First up is the trio We3, followed by singer/songer Janie Womack with Julie Lowery.
We3 calls its music "Sometimes Old, Sometimes New, Often Borrowed and Sometimes Blues." What it brings to the musical table is an amazing assortment of music: perhaps a 1930s tune back-to-back with a We3 original, ormaybe something gritty followed by something romantic. The trio features Lindy Mack and Russ & Paulette Matthews; they produced their first CD in June 2008.

Janie Womack is well known in Central Pennsylvania from past participation in the Central Pennsylvania Womyn’s Chorus, the a cappella quartet "Three J’s and a C," and the local band "t.l.o. stone soup." Accompanied by Lancaster-based Julie Lowery, she was a major hit at the 2008 Harrisburg Pride Fest (2008); she is also currently at work on her first full-length CD of original music.
