Our Ministry:
Young Religious Unitarian Universalists

High Schoolers at the Unitarian Church of Harrisburg

Where can you help build homes while paddling a canoe down a river as you exchange ideas about the ups and downs of teenage life while also sharing your favorite song in an iPod worship service?  All high school aged youth are welcome to do this and much more.  The high school youth group at the Unitarian Church of Harrisburg provides opportunities for teens to be involved in the church in a meaningful and balanced way.  In addition to participating in youth group events, youth are encouraged to participate in all-church events.

LEARNING:  For Sunday morning youth group, youth choose the topics and then share their thoughts in a small group format that brings wisdom from listening (really listening) to peers and sharing their own ideas in a caring environment.

WORSHIP:  Youth become worship leaders by planning an interfaith worship service for the congregation to be held on February 12, 2012.  Each month youth participate in a multigenerational service with the larger church family.

FUN:  Canoeing, throwing a Halloween party, playing sardines (or reverse hide and seek) during overnight retreats, etc.  Youth participate in bonding events to get to know each other better.

SOCIAL ACTION:  In addition to a week-long summer service trip to build homes in Appalachia, youth are planning an Oxfam Hunger Banquet to bring awareness to world food shortages and will be distributing rainbow bracelets to show support of GLBT youth.

LEADERSHIP:  Youth group is run on a shared leadership model.  Youth and adult advisors work together to brainstorm and create successful events.
